1. Hudson Institute

Development Intern

Description: Hudson Institute’s Development Office is recruiting exceptional students who are working toward a business degree (or a related field) for a development internship. Students with a desire to work in the field of nonprofit think tank fundraising will excel in this position. Intern will assist with development projects, while obtaining practical skills and experiencing first hand the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit organization. Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. This is an unpaid internship. College credit can be arranged.

 

Requirements: Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Applicants should be organized and excel both individually and in group settings. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is essential and knowledge of basic website code is preferred. All applicants should be students who are currently enrolled in a college or university.

2. Harbor Hospital 

Marketing and Community Relations Intern

Timeframe: 05/29/12 – 08/17/12 (dates are flexible)

Description: Assist the Harbor Hospital marketing and community relations department in the following areas: creation of news articles for internal publications, news releases, monthly health columns for local papers, fliers for internal promotion, support for community outreach seminars and Web updates. The intern’s responsibilities may be altered based on the needs of the department and the intern’s requests. The internship lasts one semester, and the intern may receive school credit.

3. Pew Research Center

Summer Research Intern

Timeline: Summer 2012

 

Description: The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press is offering a paid internship opportunity during the summer of 2012 for undergraduate students entering their senior year, recent college graduates, or graduate level students with an interest in political polling or survey research. The summer intern will be expected to assist the research team on various aspects of the survey process, including questionnaire development, data management, statistical analysis, reporting of survey results and quality control. For all of these tasks, attention to detail and individual judgment are critical in maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality.

 

Requirements: A “numbers” person with strong quantitative and statistical skills. Experience with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Interest in politics and polling. Ability to balance numerous tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. This internship pays an hourly rate of $13, and applicants must be willing to commit to a full time work week.

4. National Building Museum

Marketing and Communications Internship

Description: The museum is seeking an intern with interest in learning more about marketing and public relations in a museum environment. This internship will focus on press outreach and marketing for the exhibitions, public programming, and shop. A large component of the internship is dedicated to working with Cision to create targeted and effective press lists. The Marketing and Communications department wants it interns to have an experience that is both rewarding and substantive and works to find projects that its interns can manage on their own.

 

Requirements: Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Museum Studies, or related subjects. Prior experience with social media preferred. The minimum time commitment is two eight hour days (or four half-days) per week.

5. Atlantic Council

Energy and Environment Intern

Description: The mission of the Atlantic Council is to renew the transatlantic relationship for 21st century global challenges.  The Energy and Environment Program addresses critical issues in international energy challenges relevant to the United States and its allies and partners.  This includes a particular focus on research and development of new low-carbon technologies, energy relations with China, strengthening the U.S.-India energy relationship, increasing ties with the European Union on emerging technologies, and the make-up of the U.S. energy portfolio. The program conducts research and project activities on these and other topics, which include holding high-level meetings with leaders from government, the private sector and non-profit agencies; research and writing for publications and the New Atlanticist policy analysis blog; drafting proposals for fundraising efforts; monitoring program costs and fees; and other associated activities.

 

Requirements: The program seeks well-organized, highly reliable, motivated candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate initiative.  While this position is non-paid, candidates gain valuable skills, experience, knowledge, and contacts in the Washington, DC policy community. Must be at least a college junior in good standing. Graduate student or a recent graduate preferred. Must demonstrate proven interest in international affairs and energy and/or environmental policy. Must work well with others and have a strong work ethic. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.

6. SAIC

Computer Science Intern

Description: The Intelligence and Information Solutions Business Unit is currently recruiting for the 2012 Summer Intern Program. Under general supervision, the intern performs a wide variety of duties in support of technical or administrative assignments using established procedures. May assist in the preparation, presentation, and follow-up of proposals with supervision. May also participate in activities in support of multiple projects. Independently performs work as assigned by Management. Employee has limited autonomy for an assigned area or responsibility within a function. They are seeking interns to assist in their development activities for the summer of 2012, with the potential to extend the internship into long-term employment opportunities with SAIC upon graduation. The work will be performed in SAIC’s Columbia, MD, facility and will focus on shared situational awareness technologies. Interacts daily with supervisor, peer groups, and customers. Interaction normally involves exchanges or presentation of factual information.

 

Requirements: Rising Senior; students that are going into their Senior year of college preferred will consider Rising Junior’s. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA in a hard science ie. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Math, Operations Research.

7. The Council on Foreign Relations

Global Health Summer Internship

Description: The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher dedicated to being a resource for its members, government officials, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens in order to help them better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries. Founded in 1921, CFR carries out its mission by maintaining a diverse membership, with special programs to promote interest and develop expertise in the next generation of foreign policy leaders. CFR’s volunteer internships give selected interns the opportunity to receive training in the area of foreign policy; as well as skills training in areas such as writing, research, and program planning. The Council has an internship available in the Studies Department. The intern will report to the Senior Fellow for Global Health and will help to organize and run the daily activities of the office and participate in research as needed.

 

Requirements: Undergraduate student focusing on Global Health/International Affairs, strong interest and experience in the field of Global Health/International Affairs, strong computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel, extensive research experience, previous administrative experience, ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, flexibility and positive team player attitude, strong proofreading, editing skills and attention to detail.
